Sculpture and the Written Word, Pine Gallery 2024

We are hoping with this exhibit to give an insight into the inspiration for the work we produce or the process by which we achieve it. We are a very diverse group of artists covering the traditional materials of bronze, stone, wood and clay; but also include artists working with fiber, found objects, ceramic and paper.

Natalie Frier

It excites me to create art from an anonymous block of stone. Every move uncovers more of the stones uniqueness. Whether non-representational or figurative, I endeavor to make three dimensional art that is engaging from every view.

Pam Cooper

I create art of handmade abaca paper including: sculpture, prints, installations and book arts. Social comment is the overall theme addressed in my work

Noelle McGuire

Sculpture examines humankinds relationship with the world. Using spaces, portals and structures, reality is shifted to express not just object but emotional content. Working wool and silk into a hard, firm surface, while retaining its soft nature and combining it with industrial materials, further informs that connection.

Jong Sook Kang

Renee Lerner

I am a mixed media artist who enjoys working with fabric, metal, chain, acrylic, and mesh - materials that are pliable and easy to combine.

Ulla Novina

My sculptures are expressions of my love of and my identification with the stone. Stone holds the truth of the earth. I explore the stones natural state and strive to achieve an aesthetic balance between the stone itself and my carved form - a bold union. For me, the non-representational expressive form is truest to this idea.

Herrat Sommerhoff

"Most of the materials in my art were used for packing and storage of household goods and office equipment ‑ before I recycled them. They have interesting shapes and are fun to work with.

Catherine Schmitt

Carol Schwartz

Patricia Wong

For me, working with clay is magical; even spiritual. I sculpt in clay because of its endless possibilities. My sculptures seek to capture the strength, quietness and vulnerability of the figure and form.

Terry Mollo

Working in stone predominates. The attributes of stone motivate me to seek and appreciate the beauty that has evolved with time and nature's forces. Whether marble, travertine, alabaster, agate, each piece has its own story to tell. Its hues, striations, translucence, brilliance- and its faults- have history and mystery to unlock. While carving I listen to the stone and carve only enough to find, and unleash, its organic lines and its voice. In my sculpture, organic and inorganic form often conjure human emotion, human condition. I concentrate on the force and tension created between the two, and search for the line that is formed by their union. Nature's sea forms, often suggest human form, depth, fluidity, texture, tone. Botanicals are sensuous with leaves and flowers that appear muscled and fleshy. Stems stand tall, appear happy or courageous and proud, while others are gnarled and appear desperate or defeated. All, especially in abstraction, are metaphors for the ways in which human anatomy and musculature reflect feelings and emotions.

Laurie B. Ludmer

What is primary for me is the exploration and expression, through three-dimensional form, of what I define as essential movement.
